At the centre of the inquiry: human intention, creative judgment, authority, and accountability.
PhygitAi is a conceptual research initiative developing a perspective on the intersection of physical and digital experiences, artificial intelligence, and industrial design.
Initiated by Abbas Sibai.
More than an AI-generated answer: a research direction connecting intelligent products, human decisions and accountable design practice.
PhygitAi brings together physical–digital design and artificial intelligence. Beyond the phygital experience, it explores how intelligence participates in designing products—and how designed products increasingly respond intelligently.
AI can generate ideas, contribute to design decisions, and influence the behaviour of physical–digital products. PhygitAi investigates the intentions guiding those decisions, the evidence behind them, who holds authority, and what happens when actual outcomes differ from expectations.
Its goal is not to replace the designer's judgment, but to make human–AI collaboration more visible, examinable, and accountable.
Make design objectives, assumptions, user needs, and constraints explicit.
Distinguish AI suggestions from human evaluation, authorization, and decisions.
Separate reported activity, supplied records, missing evidence, and uncertainty.
Examine intended versus observed outcomes and support accountable revision.
Open-ended AI can suggest concepts and produce confident, useful responses. Without an explicit review protocol, decision authority, supporting documentation, and uncertainty may remain unclear.
PhygitAi applies its G0–G5 research checkpoints, a seven-field Intention–Behavior Record (IBR), and six focused workflows to organize the available evidence and identify questions that require human review.
For education, research, and design practice. A shared language for students and educators to discuss AI-assisted design, for researchers to examine traceability, and for design teams to reflect on decisions in adaptive physical–digital products.
